Welcome, everyone. Hold onto your butts, 'cause I've started a blog. To today’s internet user, blogs probably sound like a curiosity. They're something quaint that we left behind in the halcyon days of the GeoCities era.
It’s 2026, babe. Get in, we’re posting on Venmo.
And, in a certain sense, you’d be right. Unlike the late 90’s and early 2000’s, the internet is now a place of platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X: The Everything App. When we go on the web, we enter the domain of a Google, or ByteDance, or Meta. GeoCities is gone, and we connect with our communities on, like, five massive websites. The grid is standardized. Users live by a rigid, yet constantly fluctuating set of norms.
In each, we live under a different algorithm that changes fundamental dynamics of the platform on a day-to-day basis. One day, we can’t swear in the first seven seconds of a video, but actually it’s fine now so don’t worry. These changes come fast and, often, with little or no explanation. The end result is that creators have to read the tea leaves of whatever the algorithm is favoring today and live with the worry that, one day, their certain brand of speech will be disfavored because an L5 at YouTube needed to make some change, any change, in order to get promoted. As a (marginally) creative person, I haven't felt like posting on a platform that controls my livelihood like that. And as a user, y’all, I’m exhausted by this.
So here’s a blog. It’s my little cozy corner of the internet, and I hope it can be yours, too. I hope you’ll check in when I publish something, and maybe leave a nice little comment. There’s no algorithm, there’s no ads, there’s no paywall. I’m going to use this place to post little updates, thoughts, stories, and feelings about whatever might be on my mind that I think is neat. I hope y’all will feel the same.
Thanks for reading, and I’m so excited that you’re here (yes, you).
